Effective 5 August 2024: VAT Registration Changes Must Be Made Online

From 5 August 2024, any request to change your VAT registration details with HMRC must be made using your VAT online account, rather than the VAT484 form or any other postal or electronic methods.

The digital route is quicker, more secure, and helps avoid unnecessary delays.

For customers unable to access or use the digital services, such as those who are digitally excluded or need assistance with digital services, HMRC will continue to provide support through non-digital channels like the phone, including their ‘needs extra support’ service.

Some customers may still need to apply for a change to their details via post using a VAT484 form, for example, when notifying HMRC of taking over someone else’s VAT responsibilities. These customers/agents can contact HMRC to request a form.

Updated guidance will be available at ‘Change your VAT registration details’ from August 2024.
