Strategic Overhaul Needed in Tax Policy, CIOT Tells Government

Calling for greater clarity in employment law, CIOT President Nichola Ross Martin urged the government to consider introducing a statutory test to better define employment status.

She also invited CIOT members and employers to contribute to the ongoing review of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification to keep it relevant for the future.

In her inaugural speech, Ross Martin called for better HMRC service levels and pledged to push for improvements over the next year.

She said the success of Making Tax Digital (MTD) depends on continued cooperation between HMRC and tax professionals.
